Information

Milos Kykladon

Milos is a beautiful island of volcanic origin in the southwestern end of the Cyclades. Its coastline is full of sandy beaches, pebbled coves and colorful carved rocks. The soil of Milos and its great mineral wealth has contributed to the economic prosperity of the island.

The island has been inhabited since 7000 BC and it has gone through periods of great prosperity and artistic bloom. In 1820 the wonderful sculpture of Venus de Milo was discovered in the field of a villager and it is now one of the most famous exhibits of the Louvre Museum in Paris.

Nowadays the local economy is based on agriculture, tourism and mining. Milos is a popular holiday destination and visitors are enchanted by the dreamy beaches and the traditional fishing villages of the island.

How to get there:

  • By ship from the port of Piraeus: You can take a ship that goes directly to Milos and the journey takes approximately 5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a ship that also stops at the ports of Kythnos, Serifos, Sifnos and sometimes Kimolos. The duration of this kind of journey is approximately 7-8 hours. From Milos you can also go to several other Cycladic islands like Syros, Paros, Naxos, Tinos, Ios, Sikinos, Folegandros, Santorini, Crete and Rhodes.
  • By speedboat: The voyage by speedboat is faster, but also a bit expensive. The journey lasts from 2.5 to 4.5 hours and the duration of the journey depends on the type of the speedboat or the kind of journey (direct or with a stopover).
  • By airplane from Eleftherios Venizelos airport directly to Milos Airport: There are 2 or 3 flights daily and the flight takes 30 minutes. The Airport of Milos is about 4 km. from the port of Adamas (5 minutes by car), but there are buses to and from the airport.
